Safe Bowling

Yes, yes, yes, here comes the dull bit, but for good reason; bowling balls are very heavy and the lanes are very slippery. Recent surveys have shown that bruised hips, twisted ankles and crushed toes feature very low on people's expectations of a good time. We hate putting a dampener on your bowling fun, but there are a few points we'd like to make so that you can enjoy your trip to JetBowl.

Bumpers are designed to be used with a 10lb ball or less and are for the use of children to help their game. Adults should refrain from using them as this may cause damage to our automatic bumpers.

As you approach the lane your foot should not cross over the black foul line. Stepping over this line may cause serious injury as the lanes are oiled daily.

Craters look best on the Moon Please do not leave the premises or step outside while you are wearing your hired bowling shoes. This will cause grit and dirt to get onto the shoes which will then transfer onto the lanes affecting the surface.

If a problem occurs please do not try and fix it yourself. Seek a member of staff who will assist you with your problem.

The sport of bowling is designed to be a fun and competitive game but please do not ruin your enjoyment by horseplay on the lanes as this may lead you and your party to be removed from the lanes.

Sometimes if we have a mechanical breakdown we may have to move you to another lane. We always do our best to avoid this but we would thank you for your patience if this occurs.

Adults should not use any bowling ball below an 8Ib or use them for spinning.

One more thing to note: The Causeway Hospital across the river has a 24-hour A&E department, but you could really wait for hours while more urgent cases are treated, during which time you could have had a three-course meal at Oasis and watched the latest blockbuster at Movie House. It's surely best to avoid injury altogether.

Well,to our knowledge, no such survey has been conducted, but it's pretty obvious what its conclusions would be. If any enterprising postgrad at UUC were to approach us on such an experiment, we may consider sponsorship. Who knows, it might even lead to that coveted Ig Nobel prize.
